What Is Wrong About Smile Design?

There are many common beliefs about smile design, aesthetics and dentistry. Here are some of these misperceptions:

1. "Smile Design Is For Aesthetic Purposes Only"

• False: Although smile design is perceived only as an aesthetic procedure, this procedure also eliminates the functional problems of teeth. Correction of crooked teeth includes orthodontic treatments that improve chewing and speech functions. Proper alignment of teeth directly affects oral health.

2. "Smile Design is the Same for Everyone"

• False: Smile design should be personalized. Each individual's facial features, tooth structure, gum health and aesthetic expectations are different. Therefore, a different treatment plan is created for each individual. The person's age, gender, skin color and facial structure also play an important role in the design.

3. "Smile Design Is Very Expensive"

• False: The cost of smile design varies according to the procedures to be performed and the needs of the person. Smile design can be made with more economical processes such as teeth whitening, porcelain laminates, gum shaping. In addition, high quality treatment services are offered at more affordable prices within the scope of health tourism in countries such as Turkey.

4. "Smile Design is Permanent and Does Not Need to Be Renewed"

• False: Some materials used in smile design (porcelain laminaes, implants) are long-lasting, but these processes require regular care. Procedures such as teeth whitening should be renewed after a certain period of time. Teeth discoloration is associated with eating habits and daily care.

5. "Only Young People Can Have A Smile Design"

• False: Smile design is suitable for individuals of all ages. People of all age groups who need aesthetic and functional improvement can choose this procedure. Completion of missing teeth and regeneration of teeth in elderly individuals provide great benefits in terms of aesthetics and health.

6. "Having a Smile Design Damages Teeth"

• False: When smile design is done by professional dentists, it does not damage the teeth. On the contrary, it aims to maintain the health and function of the teeth. When using the right techniques and materials, the teeth become stronger and long-term protection is provided.

These misconceptions about smile design are due to the lack of full understanding of the process. Smile design is not only an aesthetic procedure, but also a treatment process that improves oral health. Long-term successful results can be achieved with personalized solutions and appropriate care.
